The Octavia RS is essentially a Golf GTI with a modified body style. It uses a lot of its foundations and the same 2-liter petrol engine with over 200 HP in stock guise. What we have here though is no regular Skoda Octavia RS.
For U.S. citizens, the Skoda name is simply unknown. Formerly established in the Czech Republic back in the 19th century, the brand is mostly known and beloved in Europe, holding a long tradition following it. Nevertheless, it didn’t really grow in terms of economics and popularity until the Volkswagen group purchased it. Now, Octavia is one of the best-selling cars on the old continent. Furthermore, they even develop their own sports line under the RS badge.
According to the people across at Autocar India, the Skoda lining up at the opening line is tuned to make around 400 HP. That’s almost double the power it came with from the factory. Will that be sufficient to beat its rival here over the standing 1/4 mile race?
On the other side of the track, we hold the new plug-in hybrid option in the BMW 7 Series. That makes it considerably heavier than the Skoda, shifting the scales at over 2 tons, while the Octavia doesn’t go greatly over 1,600 kilos.
Although, BMW has other tricks up its sleeve. It has a 3-liter straight-six engine under the hood and an electric motor to assist it on launch. Besides, it has an all-wheel-drive to help launch all of it.
The BMW 745Le has a lot of advantages over the Skoda like:
Bigger Engine;
Hybrid Assistance;
Launch Control;
All of which, the heavily modified Skoda Octavia RS lack in favor to double its factory horsepower, but there are also things the BMW doesn’t have and the Skoda has like:
Lighter chassis;
A heavily modified engine that may be able to push more power than the huge limousine, and an overall smaller body.
Both of the cars performed extraordinarily but the power output was quite the same, the only difference being that the BMW had all-wheel-drive and the Skoda was front-wheel-drive and the BMW also had the electric motor to help out at the beginning making the difference between these two beasts under 0.1 seconds at the finish, the results being almost the same.
