The time we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. The video here pits against each other two of the most heated and most interesting cars launched in the latest few years. The BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition is a new model in the line-up of BMW and one that raises a hell of a lot of performance.
Nonetheless, it’s still utilizing an internal combustion engine and, as we all know to this day, electric cars are all the hype right now, particularly when it comes to drag racing.
Following up with one is a tricky trial but the engineers in Munich did a hell of a fabulous job on the F9x generation M models. That also applies to everything from the M5 to the M8, in all forms.
The M8 Gran Coupe Competition has to face today is the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, a car that is deemed to be almost undefeatable on the drag strip. At least by a non-supercar. The M8 Gran Coupe is not technically recognized as a supercar.
The BMW comes with 625 HP and a weight of just under 2 tons. However, that power output is achieved high in the rev limit and that implies, off the line, the instantaneous power of the electric powertrain of the Porsche will provide it the edge.
The Taycan also produces more power and torque. With 761 HP and 1,050 Nm of torque and all-wheel drive, this is one hard to beat car off the line. Luckily for the BMW, it is also over 200 kilos more massive, weighing almost 2.3 tons.
So, how will the BMW ride? Well, it did moderately well, to be honest, analyzing everything. Off the line, the Porsche was quicker but not by a lot. Going over 200 km/h the BMW was keeping up, even though the Porsche had now put a gap between it and M8.
Afterall the better car won, but not by a lot. The fact that the Taycan is fully-electric gave it most of its lead having almost to no delay and not being forced to mechanically change gears and rev pistons, unfortunately, all those jobs had to be done by the BMW which didn’t perform either, being behind, but holding up in the high-speed levels.
